Book Description

Celia is in desperate need of a change--a change of scenery, a change of pace, and a complete redo of all relationships. Not knowing what else to do, she opens a map, closes her eyes, and lets fate decide her future. Then she packs her meager belongings and buys a one-way ticket to a little town on the fringes of Oregon's Deschutes National Forest called Sisters. She's wanted a family for years. Will she find one in Sisters?

What Celia doesn't plan to find is a strange Chinese woman whose meddling ways keep throwing her in the path of a handsome, but reserved, forest ranger. But no matter how kind or dependable Silas seems to be, there are some things in Celia's past that neither of them can escape, and this time, the damage might be too much to mend.

Book Review

Given the sad, sad back stories of both the main characters, one would expect this book to be dreary. However the author does a good job of keeping things light, and interesting. This is the second book in the series Power of the Matchmaker which is written by 12 different authors. So it was interesting to see Pearl's character back in the book after the first novella which dealt with her own individual story. Celia and Silas both have issues but manage to get through the worst life throws at them with fortitude. It's endearing to see how they make their way towards each other with baby steps.

Book Description

Her mother slowly dying in a poisonous plot of power.
An ancient instrument of peace threatening ultimate destruction.
A determined brainiac demanding secrets and smart enough to uncover them.

Piper Akins has lived her entire life in the clutches of an evil cult and wants to run away. But with her uncle’s double cross and her mother on her deathbed, she has no choice but to do as the cult demands and search for the supposed magical trumpet of King Tut.

Thanks to an unknown but powerful father, Piper is immune to the trumpet’s effects. But she’s not immune to the charms of Soul Warrior Math, who believes she’s working with him not against him.

Math might be the smartest warrior in the force, but he wants to be respected for his physical prowess. The only way to prove this is to discover Piper’s secrets, find the missing trumpet of peace, and defeat the evil cult. When Piper tricks him, he realizes he’s failed on all counts.

While Piper and Math circle around each other, pretending one thing, believing another, the threat grows. Her mother will certainly die if Piper doesn’t betray her growing love for Math. And Math must offer more than muscles and brains to win Piper over. He must offer his heart.

But can both learn to trust each other in time to stop mankind’s annihilation?

Book Review

I must confess that I was expecting Piper to play the trumpet all through the book like Aria did in the previous book with the Trumpet of War. However the story line here is very different and way more fun. Piper goes to her Uncle's pawn shop to retrieve the trumpet which has been smuggled in to the country on behalf of the Order of Crucis. Only to find her Uncle trying to double cross the Order by selling it to someone else. Only thing is, they steal the trumpet and walk out with one playing the trumpet and putting everyone to sleep.

Everyone but Piper. Now she knows the head of the Order Aaron will never let her hear the end of it should she reveal that she had not fallen asleep. Now the Soul Warriors show up at the pawn shop and she's forced to reveal that detail to Aaron as well, who decides she needs to keep them distracted while the Order retrieves the trumpet from the thieves. The only reason she's doing this is so that she can help cure her mother and take her away. Escape from Math, the reanimated stone warrior is not going to be quite as easy.

Forced to work together Piper falls hard for Math, but then she needs to bring the trumpet to Aaron. Will Math get over her betrayal? Will they be able to survive the fight against the members of the Order? And most importantly, will Piper escape a fate worse than death by being tired eternally to do Aaron's bidding in Pi Day? If you still don't want to read this book to find out, you obviously are strolling the wrong genre aisle!

Book Description

Her grandfather kidnapped.
An ancient instrument of death in her hands.
A warrior from the past determined to stop her.

When sixteen-year-old Aria York loses her parents, she thinks nothing worse can happen. Then her grandfather is kidnapped by a mysterious Egyptian cult and she is being hunted by two competing sects. Both want King Tut’s trumpet of war and will kill to obtain the legendary instrument.

When Aria plays the magical trumpet she forgets her grief. Instead, triumph, greed and anger flow through her veins. When chaos erupts in San Francisco as a direct result, she realizes she must trust a tortured warrior even though he demands she hand over the trumpet or risk enveloping the world in war.

Falcon comes from the past with a goal to save the future. He makes a deal with Aria to help save her grandfather, risking his quest by involving the girl and jeopardizing his heart.

Aria wants to believe him, but knows there’s something even bigger at stake. A secret so powerful neither teen understands the implications. As each precious hour passes, she’s forced to ask: Is she playing the trumpet or is the trumpet playing her?

Book Review

Falcon is one of the Xanders who was reanimated in the first book of the series. It doesn't matter too much if you haven't read the first book in terms of following the story in this one. You can still understand what's happening all throughout, but it does give a nice sense of continuity if you read the first book.

Aria (like her musical name) is pulled by the power of the trumpet of war. As she plays the trumpet she forgets the real world and is sucked in to a place where only the trumpet's music and she exist. It's only when she quits playing that she realizes that she's inciting riots and worse by releasing the magic of the music.

Falcon was addicted to the trumpet in a previous life, and he doesn't want Aria to struggle like he did. He's trying to save her, despite herself, and they both have to fight the cult that is throwing temptation her way. Can they survive the chaos unleashed when Aria plays the trumpet of war?
OMG what a sequel! I'm still feeling the rush of riding on the top of the bus. Yes I would totally recommend this book and probably this whole series, I know I can't wait to read the next book.

As the mystery surrounding the amulet unfolds, Olivia and Xander fall for each other. But is love enough to save them and the world from destruction?

Book Review

Olivia is struggling to survive and she needs to do what she is told to do to keep her young friends safe. Even if the task is stealing a precious artifact from the museum. Trouble is, it's not just any artifact and she's not the only one trying to steal it.
Xander has been brought up with the belief that he is special and that he will have the power of the soul of King Tut residing in him. So it's a major shock when he's being put through the ceremony only to have Olivia steal both the artifact and the power.
Now Olivia needs to run and hide, and Xander has been cast aside. Can the two of them trust each other enough to work together, and what exactly can they do to ensure that the hidden society doesn't cause more harm than it already has?
Fantastic YA read. Thoroughly enjoyed the story. The action is seamless, the thrill follow each other and the characters are by turns vulnerable and powerful. You find yourself rooting for them to get through the challenges they face.

Book Description

Running from hostile Indians attacking Salina, Kansas in 1862, feisty Kizzie Atwell, Grandma Mary’s oldest grandchild, runs into freighter Leander Jones traveling the Smoky Hill Trail. He is as interested in her as his stallion is in her mare. The two join forces to prevent the Fort Riley Army captain from requisitioning their beloved horses for the cavalry. Avoiding bushwhackers and fighting off a thieving bullwhacker binds their bargain.

In 1865, at the victory dance held at Fort Riley to celebrate the end of the Civil War, Kizzie is asked to participate in a fund-raiser to aid the Sanitary Commission helping injured and sick soldiers. It involves chaste sweetheart kisses in exchange for tickets purchased by officers and guests. As a contract freighter for the Army, Leander is invited. Much to Leander’s chagrin, before his chance to claim his kiss, Kizzie’s uncle steps in and puts an end to the kissing game.

Is Leander out of luck, or will the bargain Kizzie and Leander made three years earlier to save their horses lead to a more romantic bargain sealed with a kiss?

Book Review

In this historical western adventure we meet Kizzie and Leander Jones. Kizzie's family is under threat of an Indian attack and she runs away from the family wagons on her horse Sugarcone to warn her father and uncle. So that they can come back and protect the family. She has never been a proper girlie girl and prefer to wear her younger brothers trousers when riding her horse. A particularly nasty incident with a low life has her rethinking her bold plan, but Leander shows up in time to rescue her and while it rankles her at the time, she's glad for his help. When Thunder, Leander's horse goes after her mare, she's about ready to throw a fit. Unfortunately the Army wants horses and if she wants to keep Sugarcone, she will have to breed her with Thunder. What she doesn't understand is Leander's request to visit their farm as stud fees. While Sugarcone is the excuse he has, Kizzie is very much the reason for his visits.

Book Description

Libby Garrett is addicted to Owen Jackson's hot lovin'. But the sexy, popular college basketball player doesn't appreciate all of Libby's awesomeness. He refuses to be exclusive or even admit to people that they're dating. The relationship is ruining Libby and she's the only one who can't see it.

When Libby's behavior spirals completely out of control, her best friend Avery Shaw and the rest of the Science Squad stage an intervention hoping to cure Libby of her harmful Owen addiction. They put her through her very own Twelve Step program--Owen's Anonymous--and recruit the help of a sexy, broody, hard as nails coffee man to be her official sponsor.

Adam Koepp has watched Libby Garrett for years. How could he not notice the sassy girl with the purple skateboard and helmet plastered with cat stickers? But in all the years he's crushed on her, Libby has failed to take notice of him. Why would she when he was just a nobody high school drop out who served her apple cider several times a week? Especially when she was hooking up with a guy like Owen Jackson--a guy with a college scholarship and more abs than Kyle Hamilton.

Adam finally gets the chance to meet Libby when his co-worker Avery Shaw recruits him to take Libby on the journey of a lifetime. With his ability to play Bad Cop and his experience with the Twelve Step program he's the perfect candidate to be Libby's sponsor. But will he be able to keep his personal feelings out of the matter and really help her the way she needs? And will Libby hate him when he forces her to take an honest look at herself?

Book Review

Libby is an awesome girl, but with major self esteem issues. She's so grateful to Owen for noticing her that she's doing everything that she can to keep him interested. That becomes a problem when she repeatedly keeps blowing off her friends and they decide they need to stage an intervention. Avery is her best friend and she get's her manager at the coffee shop she works at to be the negotiator at the intervention. Adam has liked Libby since he was fifteen years old, but she's never known he existed. He's tired of Libby being mean to her friends for a guy who is obviously using her. He wants to help her, even if it means that she will hate him for it.

Book Description

"Does that mean you don't have a boyfriend?"

I narrowed my eyes at him but he still figured out the truth. He gazed at me for a moment then asked, "Have you ever had a boyfriend?"

I blushed again. Even deeper than before. My lack of response answered the question for me. I think this was the reaction Seth was hoping for since he leaned in really close. I instinctively tried to back away from him but seeing as how I was lying in bed, and he was blocking my escape, the only thing I could do was sink down into my pillow.

"I wonder…" he said when I could sink no lower. I was flat on my back again, ignoring the discomfort the pressure was causing my stitches. He leaned completely over me, trapping me between his hands and hovering at arms length directly above me. His eyes were still quizzical, and yet they burned, almost wild, as he stared down at me.

When he spoke again, it was a whisper. A velvety-smooth, dangerous whisper. "Have you ever been kissed, Ellie?"

I sucked in a deep breath and then held it while the blood drained from my face. I was frozen, completely terrified by this beautiful boy and what it looked like he was about to do.

When Seth leaned in and brought one of his hands to my face, I flinched so violently it startled him. Instead of kissing me—which I'm pretty sure he wanted to do—he sat back up and whispered, "Okay. Relax." He brushed the hair away from my eyes, and then ran the backs of his fingers down the length of my cheek. "When you're ready." It sounded like a promise.

Book Review

Ellie is resigned to the most boring summer ever, then he moved into the house opposite hers. She was pretty much stalking him from her bedroom window, but so was her sister. He was a hottie, who could blame them. Then Seth rescued her and took her to the hospital when she needed to get stitches. He wants to be her friend, and more...only trouble is now Ellie is convinced that he's a serial killer. One whose victims all look just like her. So does she agree to be his girlfriend to save her life? He's too intense to blow off, but she still seems to be falling for him. It's a comedy of errors with a chilling climax that could have well ended in tragedy.

Book Description

Demons tore her life apart. Can a sexy Scottish Druid put it back together again?

My name is Arabella, and I'm one hell of a mess. My entire life, I've been driven to protect and defend the innocent. But my history of epilepsy has kept me from getting into the military or law enforcement or any other career that would let me follow my dreams.

I've never felt like I've belonged because of my condition, but at least I thought I knew who I was. But then I crashed my car on the interstate, and went flying straight into the clutches of a demon in human skin. I didn't think life could get crazier than that, until a hunky guy who seems to be the lovechild of Outlander and the Iron Druid dropped in and rescued me.

But I'm not safe. Far from it. Because Brodie won't take me home. He insist that my life is a lie, and that I'm still in danger. He says the demons think I have something they want, and they won't stop coming for me until they get it.

I should run far, far away from this man. But I'm drawn to him in a way I can't explain. Those startling green eyes see past my barriers and into the real me, in a way that I didn't think anyone ever could. And that wicked smile makes me wonder what else he can do with that tempting mouth. Plus, ever since the demons showed up, my seizures have been getting worse. I have a feeling its all connected, and if I can figure out how, I might just be able to cure myself.

If I want to find out the truth, my only choice is to put my life in the hands of this charming, but dangerous Scotsman. And hope he doesn't break me in the process.

Book Review

Arabella has a desire to protect and serve but she has a tendency to blank out. That means no way she can join the police. Brodie charges into her life when she gets kidnapped by a couple of demonkin. Of course she has no idea that they are demons or that Brodie is a Druid. In fact she has no idea that she is a Sentinel at all. Now she needs to trust Brodie to stay alive long enough to get her memories back, but Lucas isn't going to give her that opportunity. Total action packed drama with fighting the bad guys, rescuing their own, some amnesia and a killer plot. You are going to love reading this book!

Book Description

If Sunaya and Iannis thought there would be time to rest after returning from their last mission, they are sorely mistaken. The Minister sends them to face off with yet more dangerous enemies - this time in a lawless port in remote Garai, where pirates and slavers thrive, and everyone is fair game.

To hide their undercover mission, Sunaya and Iannis travel to Garai as official guests to a state funeral. But Sunaya’s luck runs out when she finds out her father is on the guest list, and worse, runs straight into him and his family. For now, her deadly secret is safe. But once they discover her true identity, they may not be willing to suffer her alive…

Book Review

What an adventure this book is. Travelling to a different continent. Air ships that crash, boarding pirates, tricking mages who may harm them, and all the while running against time. I'm still a bit breathless with all the action that this book packed.

It was really nice to know that Sunaya's father was not the heartless chap we had almost decided he was. I mean a mage who takes up with a shifter and then leaves her pregnant high and dry. Then takes up with another woman and has a family with her...little wonder that we didn't much care for the character.

However he did redeem himself. After all how could he do anything about a child he was not even aware of! Still it will be interesting to see how much he supports his first born child in the books to come.

Book Description

For most women, being newly engaged to the love of your life is a time of celebration. But Sunaya's happiness is overshadowed by loss. Her friends have not returned from their quest to bring back Noria, and though the Resistance has been beaten back, they are far from vanquished.

When the Minister sends Sunaya and Iannis to destroy an important Resistance stronghold, Sunaya is torn between the desire to help her friends and defend her country. But soon she finds that the two are not as unrelated as she imagined... and in order to accomplish both, she must put her trust in a man who has betrayed her.

Book Review

Have sat through the most of this series within a couple of days. The story just hooks you and you want to find out what's going to happen next! It's been absolutely fantastic following Naya's journey from a struggling enforcer all alone in the world to being engaged to the most powerful man in the state. Can't wait to see what they will do next.

Book Description

With the rebellion now in full swing, shifter-mage hybrid Sunaya Baine has no time for distractions. She must find out the true identity of the Benefactor and pull the plug on the Resistance's funding before they succeed in their grand plans for genocide and destruction.

But the heat is upon Sunaya now, and it demands to be sated. And since the Resistance has marked her for death, she can no longer walk freely amongst the very people she is trying to save. Death, danger, and desire hem Sunaya in on all sides, and with her friends caught up in their own problems, she cannot truly count on anyone except herself.

Does Sunaya have what it takes to wrangle her unruly shifter instincts and embrace her heritage as a mage once and for all? Or will she succumb to the forces around her, and finally lose her way?

Book Review

The absence of the Chief Mage has resulted in a total annihilation of law and order in Sunaya's hometown. As she tries to help the mages restore the city she is marked by the Resistance as an enemy. She's got to lok out not just for the external enemies out to shoot, burn and stab her, but also deal with the physiology of being a shifter female in heat. Of course the one male she wants is the one she can not have! Again a whole lot is going on in this book and while Naya and Iannis seem to be making progress towards each other, they know it's not going to be easy. Can't wait to read what happens next!
