Book Review

This was a truly beautiful story of a woman looking for a fresh start after a messy divorce. She literally gets rescued from the roadside by a man who will change her world when her old car breaks down. After the treatment she got at the hands of her ex husband and father Alexa was convinced that there was no decent man left on the planet. Only for her to discover that Zane was the exception who proved the rule. He looks gruff and intimidating at first but as she discovers it’s all an act. Of course the fact that he keeps disappearing above the bar with teenage girls and comes down freshly showered is not exactly recommending itself to Alexa. Especially when he’s paying them when they leave…till she discovers his secret. I’m not going to spoil it.

Book Description

An Outrage

Miranda's father has left her inheritance under the trusteeship of a Duke of England? Miranda can scarcely comprehend what happened. Did her father not realize this is the twenty-first century? She is certainly capable of managing her own money. More importantly, she needs that money to start the hat business she's always dreamed of, and to keep her family together.
Worst of all, the Duke of Devonwood is an imperious, modern-day tycoon who insists he can manage her money better than she can.

A Heartbreaker

If Miranda can't prove herself indispensable to her step-family, they will desert her when they complete their planned move to England. She can't let that happen, not only because she loves them, but also because they are the only family she has.

A Plan

She's not about to sit home in New York City and let some arrogant Duke tell her what she can do with her own money. Luckily, she's determined, hard-working, and maybe a touch devious. She vows to do whatever it takes to foil the Duke...
Which may include skinny-dipping, flirting with his half-brother, faking illness, and befriending his half-sisters.
Which can not include falling in love.

A Complication

The Duke of Devonwood doesn't want more dependents. With an entire dukedom to run, plus his father's second family to manage, he has more than enough people hanging on his coattails. But this headstrong American woman, Miranda, doesn't take 'no' for an answer. In fact, she soon has most of his other dependents conniving with her—and against him.
He could handle the problem...if only she weren't so enticing.

Additional Complications

The Duke's step-mother already has a bride picked out for him.
Someone may be stealing Miranda's inheritance.
The Duke has his own secrets.
And the biggest problem they each face...is battling their own desires.

Book Review

All Miranda’s hopes of starting a hat business go up in flames when her father’s lawyer reveals that her fortune is now tied up in a trust which is controlled by the Duke of Devonwood. The duke was apparently a classmate of her American tycoon father when he studied at Oxford. However Miranda is not willing to let things stand that way. Surely an old man who didn’t even know her would have no interest in minding her trust till she was thirty five! So she takes her stepmother to England to try and reason with the duke. Unfortunately the duke is dead and his heir Devon is not exactly open to the idea of releasing their funds for a lavish wedding for her stepmother. Now Miranda has to figure out how to change his mind.

 Book Description
He said he'd call, but that's probably the standard line after a vacation romance. Still, she'd thought they'd had something more. When the call never came, she packed away the memories of that amazing summer, and tried to forget about Matt Brashiers.

Years later, rather than watch the ink dry on her divorce papers, Jennifer Pearson escapes to that Maui resort where she'd met her first love. When Matt walks out of the waves like a golden sun god she isn't sure whether she should approach him or flee.

Matt thinks of Jenn as the one who got away, and he's not about to let it happen again. The connection between them is still palpable, but is it enough to rekindle what they had between them ten years ago? He's got one week to prove to her he's the man she needs to spend her life with.

Book Review

Jen and Matt spent a summer working at a resort in Hawaii. They fell in love and he promised to call, but never did. Jen took six months to get over the hurt then she moved on with her life. College, marriage and divorce took their toll and she decided to retrace her steps to the last time she had been truly happy. On the first day of her vacation in Hawaii she reconnects with Matt. They are no longer collegiate in their twenties, but the attraction is as strong as ever. Will they get a second chance to make things right? Can Jen open up her heart to the person who has broken it, unwittingly, once before? Typical romance novel. Leaves you feeling happy at second chances.

Book Description

When Lauren divorces her husband, she has one thought on her mind...stepping off the merry-go-round. However, her life quickly turns into a three-ring circus: her hypochondriac father moves in, her ex is using her shower when she’s not home, and her perky assistant is pushing her out into the fearsome dating world. She also has to decide if the dilapidated barn and vintage merry-go-round she was awarded in the divorce settlement is a blessing or a bane. As if Lauren’s personal life isn’t chaotic enough, this slightly jaded attorney is overrun with a cast of quirky characters who can’t stay on the right side of the law. What’s a woman to do? She can allow life to spin her in circles forever. Or she can reach out and grab the brass ring.

Book Review

It would be a crime to label this book as just a romance novel. Donna has written a character so true to life that I could identify with her central character, Lauren beautifully. A woman who needs to be in charge as no one else will step up can become too independent. Sometimes it helps to let your man know that he is wanted even if he is not needed. The fact that failure is not always the worst thing that can happen to you is an important lesson. Its a beautiful read, and it may just give you a fresh perspective on what is truly important in life.

When Lauren is practically brought to bankruptcy thanks to her husband, she files for divorce. He may be a generous man prone to helping people, but giving away her life’s savings is not something Lauren takes easily. As the divorce proceedings reveal a previously undisclosed asset, a barn, that Greg had never mentioned before Lauren is happy to have it allotted to her. Especially when she discovers an old Merry Go Round in it, which she feels can be restored and sold for a fair price.

Greg feels guilty about the bad decisions which have caused the end of their marriage and he hopes to make it all up to Lauren, but she doesn’t seem to be in any mood to listen to him. His father in law is on his side, and the hypochondriac old man manages to meddle in Lauren’s life enough for her to wish him someplace else. This is compounded by the fact that she comes home one day to find Greg using her shower! Lauren is also shuffling a new love interest after her office assistant pushes her to begin dating again.

Every character brings depth to the book and the situations go from heart breaking to hilarious as the story swings through its ups and downs. Totally recommend this read!

About The Book
Mitch Albom is involved and obsessed with his materialistic, soul-cringing routine as a sports columnist. He fails to keep track of his ailing sociology professor Morrie Schwartz for close to 16 years until he is reminded of the latter through a television show. He only has one Tuesday every week by his side to spare some time to get back to his roots. The veteran meanwhile is revealed to be a victim of a motor neuron disease, with not much at his disposal to break free of the worldly shackles.
Morrie's supposed comeback in Albom's life brings the much needed order that he desperately craved for. His master gives answers to those questions that Albom never had any idea about. Newer philosophies are embraced, heavy-hearted lessons are learned and long-forgotten purposes are rekindled in Tuesdays With Morrie: An Old Man, A Young Man and Life's Greatest Lesson, which discusses about life, love, compassion, ambitions and ultimately death.
Beyond these, Tuesdays with Morrie: An Old Man, A Young Man and Life's Greatest Lesson is a saga that explores the inexplicable bond that a teacher and student go on to share. Morrie not only professes a certain subject to a particular pupil, but is as significant in ingraining an ever-welcoming mindset into the latter. He empowers his pupil with all the courage to sip his cup of tea with more optimism by the day. The exported edition of this book available in paperback, was published on 1st December, 1998.

My Review:

This book shows the intense friendship the author had with his teacher. He was initially guided by this teacher earlier in life and then after a span of 16 years he comes across his teacher when both of them are in the most vulnerable time of their lives. The difference being one wanting to live but can't and the second being living but not knowing how to. It was quite an interesting read. Makes you sit and question a lot of things in life. :)

Book Review

Cora Rules’ story is the third in the Hollywood Rules book series by Mel Curtis. After her sister Amber and brother Blue manage to figure out how to be effective life coaches at the Dooley Foundation, it is now Cora’s turn to meet her sales quota. However Cora wants nothing to do with it, she wants to go to Paris and become a designer. The new family dynamics is what decides to make her give life coaching a shot just to help her siblings out. Unfortunately, for a person with her past Hollywood is not exactly a forgiving place.
Coach Trent Parker has finally hit the big time with NBA and he has a lot riding on his first season. The last thing he needs is any sort of distraction, unfortunately with the team owner’s illness, his wife’s vindictiveness, and a life coach who he does not want anywhere near him stealing the hearts of all his players, Coach has his hands full. He does not want to fall in love with a woman seven years younger than him, or be in charge of a father, who is marrying a girl younger than himself, but we don’t always get what we want, do we? Sometimes we don’t know how lucky we are!

Book Review

Finally the last book in this series. I have enjoyed reading all the books, but the first and the last book were really the best. Becca is studying to be a doctor, and there is time for nothing beyond her books. She would like to take things up with her best friend from childhood, Brian, but he doesn't seem to think of her as girl friend material. they seem to have been friends too long for it to change into something else.

Brian has been having different feelings for Becca, dreams that he thinks are wired. Little does he remember that they are actually images that his alcohol soaked brain has filtered from his one evening with Becca. But Becca never said a word, so they have to be dreams right? After all he can't possibly act on these new feelings and risk their precious friendship.

Thanks to the same friendship Becca and Brian end up as co- contestants on a Fairy Tale based reality TV show. Brian needs the money and Becca is there to support him, however things are never quite as they appear on reality TV. Just how does their friendship survive this test?
