Book Description

A homecoming he never wanted ...

Ben Sumner left the suffocating small town of Canyon Creek, Colorado ten years ago, and never looked back. Not for more than a visit. Even though his family helped found the town and owned a large piece of the mountain at its center, he always felt out of place.

His father’s death has changed that, bringing him home to discover his parents leveraged everything to build a lodge on the family’s property. Ben knows cutting costs is the only way to keep the bank from foreclosing on his family’s legacy. There’s only one person standing in his way: Maggie Lawrence, the high school crush who’d never spared him a glance. She might be just as beautiful as she was ten years earlier, but he’ll do whatever it takes to stop her.

Maggie Lawrence fought harder than most to get to where she is today. She’s overcome her father’s cruel taunts and jeers, and found a place where she belongs. At the Lodge at Canyon Creek, she’s a valued part of the staff, and practically a member of the Sumner family.

When the lodge owner, John Sumner suddenly dies, she’ll do everything in her power to carry on John’s dream, even if that means fighting the oh-so-sexy Ben Sumner every step of the way.

Born to Be My Baby is the first book in the Canyon Creek, CO Series. It can be read as a standalone book.

Book Review

Maggie has been working at the Sumner lodge for years. She is grateful to John and Valerie for all the encouragement and support that they have given her. She was resigned to being the town drunk's daughter, but working as the manager of the lodge has given her confidence a boost. She's now working at putting together enough funds to run her own bed and breakfast one day. What she doesn't expect is John's sudden death.

Ben has become a successful businessman by writing exceptional code and creating software. He feels that life is taking him away from the coding he enjoys to the endless tasks of running a company, but he doesn't know what else to do. That's when he gets the news of his father dying. He rushes back home only to find out that his parents have expanded the lodge way too soon and have a huge loan.

Ben doesn't think his mother can manage on his own and is surprised to find Maggie at her side, helping her. It doesn't help him that he's been crushing on Maggie since high school. The two of them butt heads over changes and cuts that he want to make. And somewhere along the way they discover that they do indeed work well together, not just as work colleagues, but also as life partners.

Beautiful story. Loved the characters. So much depth and emotion. Very well dealt with. Looking forward to the rest of the brothers joining the lodge in the subsequent stories.

AN UNCONVENTIONAL WOMAN…

Freya Campbell is the madam of Molly’s, an infamous Edinburgh bawdy house. Running the establishment not only enables her to help war widows and aid soldiers, but the income generated affords her family a good life and safety in times that are uncertain and dangerous.

AN HONORABLE MAN...

Ewan Fraser is a man shamed by his father’s transgressions. To salvage his legacy and name, he has earned his way as a Captain in the Black Watch, England’s Scottish regiment. When war turns the days dark and dismal, he fears for his mother's safety and will stop at nothing to protect her.

A LOVE THAT KNOWS NO BOUNDS.
With England's hold on Scotland tightening, Ewan and Freya must work together to save their threatened families. But can two unlikely lovers find happiness in a world with seemingly no future?

Book Review

Freya Campbell runs a brothel, but she's not your typical Madam. She's ensuring that the women who end up at her establishment have a chance to learn other skills and have a safe place to stay. She feeds the poor and does a whole lot of charity work which does not add up to the character of a Madam.

That's what intrigues Ewan Fraser, a Captain in the Black Watch. He's trying to remove the tag of traitor that was attached to his father not realizing the actual actions taken by that man saved many lives. Life becomes all the more confusing when the people whom he is supposed to fight along with end up burning his family home and killing his servants.

His mother barely survives the ordeal and it is only with Freya's help that he can rescue her. Unfortunately helping Ewan will cost Freya everything she has worked so hard to build. Can she walk away from everything just to help another lost soul? It's a lovely historical novel that explores how one action can be seen as treason as well as patriotism in the same time by different people. Well written story and interesting characters as always.

Book Description

He never relied on anyone but himself…

But he needs her now!

Butterfly Harbor deputy Matt Knight wants two things: to date Lori Bradley and the chance to adopt Kyle, a troubled teen. Wounded in Afghanistan, Matt knows he can’t move forward anchored to the past. But once he regains the guarded hotel manager’s trust, will his need to protect those he loves cost him a future with this extraordinary woman?

Book Review

As we follow all the deputies in the Sheriff's Department at Butterfly Harbor, we learn more about the characters who reside in this charming little town. This time we're peeking into Matt and Lori's lives. Matt is a relative outsider, who came to town to start afresh after his discharge from the services. Lori came to live in Butterfly Harbor after the death of her younger brother when she was barely a teenager. Although her grandparents were supportive, she's not had an easy childhood. Battling with peer cruelty and her extra weight, she's built a wall around her self.

Matt has no intention of getting involved with anyone, but ends up wanting to adopt a young teenager with a troubled past. Having Lori as his girlfriend would strengthen his adoption case, but he doesn't want to take advantage of her. It's a beautiful story dealing with everyday crisis and how both parties respond. Sometimes love is not enough, specially when it is difficult to trust. Wonderful book from Anna...as always.

Book Description

It’s not Sam’s job to keep her safe, but he resolutely assumes the responsibility when he discovers she has nowhere else to go. Rest and relaxation is impossible to achieve with a sexy blond sharing his room, especially when her attackers aren’t willing to forgo their prize.

Book Review

Sam is the last of the four brothers in this series. Just like all the others, he didn't fall gently in love, but literally rescued his future girlfriend from thugs looking to kidnap her.
Kinsey is having a bit of trouble on this new chapter of her life. She sold off everything and moved to Europe for a fresh start, but everything went wrong from the job she had lined up falling through to the people she was working for leaving without giving her her wages.
Kinsey's optimistic attitude despite everything that she has gone through finally thaws the heart that Sam has kept in deep freeze since he lost his fiancee to cancer. Neither of them are looking for a permanent relationship, but both of them end up falling, hard, for each other. Nice plot, good characterization and of course the family dinner reunion was a nice touch at the end of the series.
I received an advanced copy for reviewing.

Book Description

Love can be the greatest possession.

Brianna Lindsay's grip on the inheritance that is rightly hers hangs by a thread. If the town finds out her father has died, Brianna will be forced into marriage with her loathsome cousin, Lord Robert, and will lose all of Edzell Castle and its lands. To protect her home, she'll have to trust a complete stranger, a brooding Highland barbarian who sweeps into Edzell with a small retinue and insists on replacing her Captain of the Guard. He proves his worth by defeating her men and she has no choice but to accept his offer.

Though his motives are suspect, Colin MacKinnon has nobility in his blood and good intentions in coming to Edzell. He seeks his own kingdom, one to rival his father's, and sets out to conquer Brianna in the best way he knows how—with seduction.

Brianna never thought of all the wealth she protects, the one thing she has left completely vulnerable is her heart. Colin never thought that of everything he stands to achieve, he might have to face the unexpected pain of loss. Together, they must navigate a treacherous world of spies and intrigue, of legacy and fidelity, of love and betrayal, to find what is truly worth possessing.

Book Review

Another excellent historical read from Madeline Martin. Brianna is desperate to retain her freedom, while her cousin tries to force her into marriage with him. She turns to her Captain of the Guard for help. Collin is not a commoner like she believed, as his father is a laird. However the situation is complicated and she needs to save him from hanging, for a crime that he did not commit.
What I loved about the book is that there is no single plot that takes you predictably from a to z. You have misunderstandings between the newly married couple, you have a temptress from the husband's past, you have a possible French father of the wife, not to mention a twin brother and disapproving father who also show up.

From the first page she has you hooked. I literally couldn't sleep without completing the novel.Totally recommend the read.

Guest Post by Author Nidhi Kaur

How I turned into an Author

I am a thirty seven year old female, and a computer engineer by profession. The thought of writing a book never crossed my mind until I was thirty four. It was one fine day and my heart was full of gratitude toward the Universe for blessing my life in so many ways. I was never so grateful before. I have always had a big list of complaints against my life and the circumstances I have been through. But that day there were no complaints, no grudges, and no blame.
I pondered and asked myself, “What have you done, Nidhi? Life was not so peaceful for you before and you never thought that you would have a happy life. How did you reach here?” As I introspected I heard a voice say, “I love you” to me. My heart pounded, and love danced within my chest. I had a strong urge to write a poem and I wrote one. Then wrote another, and then another. I wrote around twenty poems that day.
I thought to myself that if I can write up to fifty poems I will get those printed for my children. But the writing did not stop. It happened every single day and has been happening ever since. The content of my writings and poems have changed, but a voice within me keeps telling me love secrets that I write down on a paper. These secrets have turned into two beautiful books “My Wedding with Truth”, and “A Journey to Yonder”, with a third one coming up next.
I hope you all can make that connection with the secret lover and live your life to your true potential.

Book Description

A Journey to Yonder is the tale of one woman’s refusal to allow the challenges of her past to define her present. She grows up with a special needs sibling and loses her childhood home, and we then follow her through an abusive relationship and into the most unforgiving of human trials.

With experiences that leave you feeling so alone, how do you hold on to hope? How do you go on?

Nidhi Kaur’s compelling use of both poetry and prose intimately welcomes readers into this moving story of spiritual rediscovery. Poems are sprinkled throughout the story, guiding readers through intimate and stunning moments of truth. Kaur reminds us that if we offer our trust completely to God, we are never alone.

The author of the spiritual collection of poetry My Wedding with Truth, Nidhi Kaur once again delivers an emotionally enlightened journey through the human heart. Miracles can be seen everywhere in this world, and Kaur helps us remember to keep our eyes open in this riveting story of redemption.

Book Review

As an Indian woman myself, I have not been a stranger to the inequality of genders in our country. Very often I have faced circumstances similar to what the author narrated in the book and felt the fear and frustrations that often accompany these experiences. This is a tale of self discovery and return to prayer after really horrific experiences.

I don't know if the story is autobiographical, but I pray it is not. The book has a beautiful blend of prose and poetry which leads us into the author's inner thoughts and feelings. The language is descriptive and evokes visual images. I loved the way she described her childhood home and could almost compare it to my own grandparents home. The loss she felt when it was sold was one that I could totally identify with.

The darker parts of the book involving the abusive treatment left me feeling depressed. To be honest it rang a bit too true to what often happens around us in society. Sometimes it's even closer home. The author's strength in bringing all this to light is truly commendable. I wish her joy and solace as she takes the journey into yonder.

Book Description

If it swells, ride it…
Georgie Childress moved to Verity Beach to lick her wounds after her controlling fiancé pulled a runner mere weeks before the wedding. Jobless and desperate to flee his turf, she sought solace in the quietude of the ocean, happily escaping into her own thoughts while surrounded by diving dolphins and cacophonous seagulls. Only when she accidentally runs over some random—and super sexy—surfer dude’s surfboard does she start to wonder if she needs to bring her head out of the clouds and start paying attention to life again.
Spencer Willoughby long ago fled his rigid upbringing, shunning the familial expectations of an Ivy League education and Wall Street career in favor of the sun, sand and surf along North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Give him a surfboard and he’s a happy man. That is until some nutty lady with a penchant for fender-benders backs into his beloved hand-crafted wooden surfboard, snapping it in half. It’s enough to make a man crazy—crazier still because the kooky blond is making his blood run hot.
Just when he finally gets the woman out of his head, Spencer is unwittingly paired off with her at a wedding as a favor to a friend, forcing him to make nice with his board-murdering nemesis who he might just want to ride off into the sunset.

Book Review

This was a book that made me smile. Georgie is an emotional and extremely sentimental person. Having been stood up at the altar, her resolve to safeguard her heart includes sticking with her BOBs and not looking at men for even companionship. Then she goes to the beach and "Kills" a handmade surf board. The surfer dude is very understanding, although he may be just been in shock. She feels terrible about her action and decides to do something nice for the stranger, like making him a handmade quilt.
Of course she has no idea how she's going to give it to him. Considering that she doesn't even know his name. Then she heads to her cousin's wedding and bumps into him again. He's been tasked with keeping her busy for the evening while his friend tries to make headway with her boss and friend who accompanied her to the wedding. Needless to say, things get a bit uncomfortable.
Spencer spent a lot of time and effort crafting the perfect wooden board to surf. He even named it Petie. And then this thoughtless blond just killed it. How was he supposed to surf now? He'd left behind a privileged life to get away from the suffocating stranglehold of his father. He was not quite over the betrayal of his ex girlfriend who supported his father rather than his own dreams. Women were simply not worth the effort it took to develop a relationship.
Tinder was good enough to meet any other needs. So when he runs into the weepy blond from the beach, he's wondering what kind of evening he's in for at the wedding. It ends up going better than he expected and even as he skips out the next morning he can't help but think maybe he's doing something wrong.
