Book Review

After the death of their father, Gio went into business mode and Nick went into playboy mode. It was easier to forget all about their messed up family when he was drinking and partying hard with his group of globe trotting friends. Who would ever love this wreck of a man anyway, is what he told himself to justify his fast paced adventures, till childhood friend Rena caught up with him.

Rena knows that Nick is a playboy who does not believe in commitment, but she is so attracted to him. Her solution is to have mind blowing sex with him for one day in a week and keep the rest of their lives apart. Naturally the whole plot to keep her heart safe and engaged elsewhere does not work and now she's facing heart break, because she's in love with a man who can never love her back, or can he?

Come Away With Me (The Andrades)

Gio Andrade:
Rich, powerful, sexy. A man who thinks he has everything . . . until he meets Julia.

Julia Bennett:
Sweet, spontaneous, and desperate to sell her jewelry line in New York City. She takes a job as a night security guard to pay the rent.

Sparks fly when she mistakes her boss for an intruder. He can’t get her out of his head. She can’t find the strength to deny him. Will lies bring them together or tear them apart forever? The Andrades is a spin off series of the Legacy Collection with cameos from characters you love from that series.

Book Review

If you enjoyed Dominic and his friends in the Legacy series, you may like to know more about his sister's husband's family. The four brothers in the Andrades series are his cousins and they have enough family drama waiting to happen. Of course Julia has no clue that she is going to end up smack middle of some crazy happenings. Maddy is not making matters simple by coming up with her match making bets, and Gio couldn't care less what the world thought. That is till he can't stop thinking about the hot security guard who clocked him! Fun, easy reading.

Friends vs. Family: The Ghost Bird Series: #3 (The Academy Ghost Bird Series)

Book Description

Sang Sorenson is forced to suffer through another of her mother's extreme punishments. It almost kills her. The Academy boys vow it will be the last. They're determined to keep Sang safe, especially from her own family.

Their solution: complete invasion of her life.

Kota, Luke, Silas, Nathan, Victor, Gabriel and North do everything within their power to show Sang what true loyalty means. It takes more than blood to make a family and they want Sang in theirs.

In this third book of The Academy series Sang experiences a taste of freedom and what it's like to truly be cared for...to be wanted. Sang learns a bit more about the boys' broken families and the boys discover more than they could ever have bargained for about Sang's. The Academy was the answer to their problems. Could it be hers?

Sang's actions will force her mother to reveal a startling truth. A truth that will change Sang's life and the boys' lives in unpredictable ways. Forever.

Book Review

This is the turning point in the series. The book where Sang's mother ties her up and leaves her in the shower, literally to die. If it were not for Silas and Nathan's response to her call, she would have lost her life. The abusive relationship is finally brought to the attention of Mr. Blackbourne and Dr. Green. The boys have decided that she can't possibly stay in this situation, however Sang surprises them yet again.

She doesn't want to leave and get the boys in trouble. She is not aware of the Ghost Bird status that they are trying to preserve for her, but she feels that her mother is ill and needs help. Sang is brave but insecure. She wants to trust the boys, but she is so scarred from her abusive past that she finds it difficult. And without earning that trust the boys can't bring her into the Academy with them.

As their relationships continue to bloom, more than one boy has developed stronger feelings for her. I'm getting worried about jealousy turning up and ruining everything for Sang and her band of protectors. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Book Description

When wealthy American businessman Glenn Danning goes missing in Venezuela, investigator Miranda Soto volunteers to track him down. It’s her first assignment for the Civilian Personnel Recovery Unit, but this mission is about more than salvaging the remnants of her shattered military career. Glenn was Miranda’s best friend and first lover, and she’ll do anything to save him from danger…especially since she just lost everything that mattered to her.
Glenn barely survived being kidnapped and tortured as a suspected spy, but the shock of seeing Miranda again gives him a new lease on life. Their still-simmering attraction grows hotter as the couple races through the treacherous jungle. Determined to reach safe ground, they must stay alive long enough to stop the terrifying enemy who still hunts Glenn. And even if they survive, Miranda’s dark past could jeopardize their future together…

Book Review

Miranda has always loved Glenn, but now she needs to put her personal feelings aside and rescue him. The book takes them through a rough trek through the forest, and a number of ups and downs personally speaking. Its a good, fast paced story and I enjoyed reading it. Specially the part where the two engineering brains are trying to figure out the best way to build a shelter to protect themselves from the animals and other dangers of the forest for the night. The two nerds getting together was just too cute!

This action-packed story provides a thrilling read that combines an exciting mystery with a poignant and thought-provoking glimpse of the dangers that can be present in other countries.

Reluctant Concubine (Hardstorm Saga Book 1)
To escape punishment, Tera, a maiden healer sold to barbarians must hide the truth: she has not yet come into her healing powers. Born into a much gentler world, she struggles to survive in a land of savage warlords and their cruel concubines. When ancient prophecies begin to come to pass, can the healer-slave save the realm and awaken the High Lord’s heart?

Book Review

To be honest I didn't know Dana Marton wrote fantasy. I have been reading her Broslin Creek series and thought of her more as an action romance genre writer. I was pleasantly surprised to read this book. The new world she has created has depth. The characters are absolutely believable in their actions and I am inspired to write something myself in fantasy after reading this book. This is also a series, but I haven't read any more books from it as yet. Some of you may have read this book when it was called The Third Scroll.

The Watchmaker: A Sweet Contemporary Time Travel Romance

Book Description

Marae O’Conaire has much bigger problems than the fact her watch stopped at 3:57 p.m. When she brings her watch to a kindly repairman, she learns she has won a peculiar prize, a chance to re-live a single hour of her life. But Fate has strict rules about how one can go poking in the past, including the warning that she can’t do anything that would create a time-paradox. Can Marae make peace with the mistake she regrets most in this world?

The Watchmaker is a sweet, contemporary time-travel romance about second chances set in the historic mill city of Lowell, Massachusetts, complete with a walkable map of the downtown area canals. It explores themes of regret, second chances, interracial relationships, and the Nordic concept of fate being a participatory event. It is a complete, standalone novelette that is not connected to any series, though perhaps someday Urðr, Verðandi or Skuld will award an hour to someone else?

Book Review

One hour to change how things turned out. One hour in the past and how can Marae use this gift to make sure that her future turns out better than the one she is currently living in. Can you really change your own fate with the gift of a single hour? Marae sure hopes to try.

When the watch gifted to her by her dead fiancé stops she decides to get it repaired from the shop he bought it. Being his last connection to her, she would want to preserve it. Then the watchmaker gifts her with a magical hour in the past. She must now hurry to reach him one year ago and tell him just how much his love means to her. To try and keep him safe even as he goes into battle.

It is an absolutely brilliant tale and I love the way Anna spins her stories.

Can people truly change?

Two things keep Holly Campbell grounded: her precocious son and preserving her forty-year-old family diner in the face of expansion and change. She doesn't need a blast from the past like Luke Saxon, who's back in Butterfly Harbor after more than a decade away. The hard-luck kid who nearly destroyed her family, leaving her to pick up the pieces, is taking over as sheriff. She can't trust him, even if Luke's ideas for the town's upcoming anniversary seem to show he's trying to give back to their community. Has Butterfly Harbor found its unlikely savior? And has the widowed single mother finally found a man she can believe in, rely on…and love?

USA Today and national bestselling author Anna J. Stewart can't remember a time she didn't have a book in her hands or a story in her head. Early obsessions with Star Wars, Star Trek and Wonder Woman set her on the path to creating fun, funny, and family centric romances with happily ever afters for the independent heroines she writes for both Harlequin and Berkley. Anna lives in Northern California where she deals with a serious Supernatural & Sherlock addiction, surrounds herself with friends and family and tolerates an overly affectionate cat named Snickers (or perhaps it's Snickers who tolerates her).

Book Description

Sang Sorenson used to be the invisible girl in class. As a new student to Ashley Waters High School, Sang hopes that her new friends will be the change she’s been craving and will make fitting in a breeze.

But Academy students aren’t there to take it easy. The high school is overcrowded and rife with violence. When fights begin, Sang will uncover the true reason the boys traded in their private school life for a public one.

This year, Sang will no longer be invisible. This year, Sang is a target.

The principal and vice principal are hot to take Sang down, and her own mother is determined to entrap Sang forever in her belief that the safest place to be is in the shadows. Despite this, Nathan, Luke, Kota, North, Silas, Victor, and Gabriel will discover Sang’s unyielding loyalty.

And they will sorely need it. The Academy, supremely influential.

Book Review

Sang gets accepted into her new school and compares schedules with the boys. She shares Homeroom with Luke and North. Then AP English with Kota, Gabriel and Luke. AP Geometry with Nathan and North. Violin with Mr Blackbourne. AP World History with Victor and North. AP Biology with Silas. Japanese taught by Dr. Green and attended by Victor. Finally Gym with Gabriel and Nathan.

It may seem like overkill, but knowing the schedule will help keep a lot of things straight in the future books, I promise. Anyhow, the school has become a whole lot more fun now that Sang has the boys around. They try to protect her from McCoy, but when Sang ends up with detention, they all manage to get detention to go along with her.

Sang also manages to stop a barbaric practice called "Friday Fall" where one student gets chucked down two stories of stairs. She manages to prevent Kota from being thrown over and as Greg throws her down instead manages to garner the support of the school's football team when Rocky comes to her rescue.

The rowdiness of the overcrowded school explains just why the Academy students are there. It also gives a valid excuse for the boys to be extra protective of Sang. Although she is trying to pull her weight and care for them as much as they care for her. This is the book where Dr. Roberts reveals Sang's "Ghost Bird" status and Mr. Blackbourne decides to go for the closed adoption.

Book Description

With an agoraphobic mother and a barely-there father, Sang abhors the isolation keeping her in the shadows. The only thing Sang craves is a fresh start and to be accepted as ordinary by her peers, because for her being different meant being cast out alone.

When her family moves to a new school district, Sang infiltrates a group of boys nearly perfect in every way. Grateful for an influence outside of her parents' negativity, she quickly bonds with the boys, hoping to blend in and learn from them what it means to have a natural relationship with friends.

Only the boys have secrets of their own and they'll do anything to keep her safe from the knowledge of the mysterious Academy that they've sworn allegiance to. Bit by bit, Sang discovers that her friends are far from the normalcy she expected. Will her loyalty change when she's forced to remain in the dark, or will she accept that she's traded one house of secrets for another?

Book Review

I have been reading this series for a while now, I just haven't had time to put down the Kindle and write a review. Sang is a small, delicate girl who has led a tough childhood. Her mother doesn't allow her to go out because she believes that the world is full of people out to harm her. Sang is scared that she is gradually becoming just like her mother and she needs to do something that will let her know that the outside world is not as scary as her mother thinks.

In her wisdom Sang decides that she needs to spend at least one night away from home without her parent's knowledge and prove to herself that she can survive out there. Only trouble is the night she picks, it begins to rain and then she gets flattened by Max, a golden retriever belonging to her neighbour Kota.

Kota feels guilty about her hurting her arm and invites her over to his place to look over the wound...and there by begins the friendship that will literally change Sang's life. Kota introduces her to his friends and Sang feels loved and protected amongst them. There is just one thing that mars her happiness, the shadow of the Academy that the boys attend is always hanging over them.

He’ll do whatever it takes, no matter who gets hurt. Until he meets the town’s stunning deputy. Can he put his needs ahead of her happiness?

Book Review

The three pups we first met in Please Keep Me return in this book. Once the first pup doesn't return Chubby decides to leave the box to find help and this is his story.

Shawna has never felt a connection as strong as the one she feels to the little boy she rescues. She even loves his furry guardian pup. Billy is an angry, unhappy and sad boy. He refuses to go back to his foster home, and can't allow himself the luxury of loving the pup either. This means Shawna is able to hang on to him for a while longer as her social worker friend tries to pull out the story of abuse in the foster home.

The surprise in the parcel is the fact that Billy is not really an orphan. His dead mother had vindictively kept the knowledge of his father from him. Now John knows that his son has been shuttled into the foster care system and he's back to stake a claim. Unfortunately he also feels like staking a claim to his son's current care giver. The deputy may love his son, but could she have place in her heart for him as well?

Really sweet and heart warming. I can't wait to see who Cranky, the third pup, ends up with.
