Book Description
After the death of her beloved guardian, Miss Felicity Fields is left adrift, her future uncertain. Grief-stricken, she launches a plan to use her knowledge of alchemy to build a Philosopher's Stone, and bring back to life the woman who was like a mother to her. The last thing this blunt bluestocking needs is the return of Nicholas Harding, the Duke of Wycliffe and rightful owner of her home on the wild coast of Cornwall. He stirs an unexpected passion within her, and Felicity has had enough change in her life. When they were children, Nicholas never understood his aunt's brilliant but unemotional ward, or her many strange scientific studies. He ought to take her back to London, so she can make a proper society match--except he can't stop thinking about her. But with the line between life and death blurred by Felicity's macabre experiments, can he convince her that she's no longer alone, and her proper place is by his side?
Book Review
Nicholas has returned to Cornwall to take charge of his responsibilities as the Duke of Wycliffe. A task that he has avoided for years. Now that his aunt has died, he needs to arrange for Felicity, his aunt's ward to have a proper introduction to the ton. He wants to do his duty by her, however she wants nothing to do with high society.
Felicity has always felt that death was responsible for taking away everyone she loved. Her parents, then her uncle and aunt. She's always been brilliant and now she's dabbling in alchemy with the intention of creating the Philosopher's Stone so that she can bring back her aunt to life. Unfortunately even with her brilliance she's not found the solution.
Nicholas is more than shocked by her attempt at reversing death, but he can't help but still be attracted to her. He's always been protective about her, and now he finds the thought of introducing her to someone else and marrying her off disheartening. Then she begins a scientific experiment by kissing him, and he knows that he will never be able to let her go.
It's a story of two misfits who have been struggling with their place in society, who finally find peace together.

Book Review
The adventures of Dara, Mackenzie and Jennifer continue in this third book of the F.I.G. mysteries. This time round Mackenzie is chosen to lead a project that is top secret and may lead to amazing advancements in the field of science. The project is based in China. Dara is being asked to help out at an archaeological site which is also in China. There is no doubt that both Carolina and Jennifer will accompany them there.
The trip is overshadowed with a warning of danger for Mackenzie sent out by Carolina's gypsy mother in Italy. She needs to be protected from the dragon who means her bodily harm. Will her friends be able to keep Mackenzie safe, even as her genius shines in solving the problems of her secret research project?
There are old friends from New York revisited, and Carolina's boyfriend is again trying to run to their rescue as soon as his Gypsy senses twitch. The discovery of Mackenzie's origins and family was interesting.
I enjoyed reading the book, there were a number of twists and turns that led to you wondering what was coming next. Although I could have done with a little less of the repetition from the first couple of books. For someone following the series it was boring, however I suppose for someone who picks up the book as a standalone, it would be fine.

When the new laird comes back to claim his land, his determination to restore order threatens everything Celia has worked so hard to gain, especially with the undeniable attraction sizzling between them. Together, they will face all challenges, from the tangle of their own damaged pasts to the fire-fueled witch hunts sweeping the Isle of Mull. Together, they will find that the best way to overcome darkness and war is through the undeniable light of love.
Book Review
Alec has come back to a castle in ruins, a people plagued by bandits and a land gone wild. He has his task cut out for himself to claim his birthright. He's not afraid of hard work, but he's not expecting Celia to upset his well balanced apple cart.
Celia has a gift for healing, it's not witchcraft, it's knowledge of herbs. However that does not stop her from being sought out as a witch. Having escaped from a witch hunt as a child, she has tried to stay low key and heal those who came to her.
She was not looking forward to having to heal Alec. Even if he had saved the life of a young girl. The two of them are not looking for a relationship, but their sparks cause a fire between them. Both want to keep it purely physical, but love blooms.
Just when Celia felt that she could open her heart to more, an old enemy catches up to her and she must flee if she wants to live. The only way he can keep her safe is by staying away from her. Unfortunately, a misguided guided youth manages to bungle up her hiding space.
There are so many elements of drama, such complex characters and their motivation woven into the tale. You simply can't put the book down and say I'll come back to this. You have to read to find out what happened next, till you eventually end the book with a heartfelt sigh offering thanks to the author for having helped them find their happy ending despite all odds.

GUEST POST BY BARBARA CASEY
One
of the major themes in The
Cadence of Gypsies
involves the Voynich Manuscript, considered to be the most mysterious
document in the world. Dara, Mackenzie, and Jennifer, the three
teenage orphans who call themselves the FIGs (Females of Intellectual
Genius), travel to Italy to help their teacher, Carolina find out
what the connection is between a letter she received supposedly from
her biological parents on her 18th
birthday and the Voynich Manuscript. That was also when she learned
that she was adopted.
In
reality, the Voynich
Manuscript is believed
to date to the early 15th century, possibly from northern Italy. It
is named after the book dealer Wilfrid
Voynich,
who purchased it in 1912.
The
original manuscript is composed of 240 vellum
pages, most with illustrations which seem to present information
about aliens, and plants and their possible uses for medical
purposes. However, most of the plants do not resemble any known
species. And even though the Voynich Manuscript has been studied by
many professional and amateur cryptographers,
including American and British codebreakers
from both World
War I
and World
War II,
the manuscript's script
and language
has remained unknown and unreadable.
Now,
once again the Voynich Manuscript is in the news as scientists have
attempted to use the power of artificial intelligence to unlock its
ancient secrets. The first stage of the research was working out the
manuscript’s language. The experts used 400 different language
translations from the “Universal
Declaration of Human Rights”
to identify the language used in the text. Initially, it seemed like
the text was written in Arabic, but the researchers’ algorithms
revealed that the manuscript is written in Hebrew. The next step will
be to decipher it using ‘alphagrams’ that use one phrase to
define another in order to build an algorithm to unscramble the text.
Interestingly,
while this is taking place, Viekko Latvala, a businessman from
Finland who professes to be a “profit of god,” says he has
decoded the manuscript, describing the written characters as “sonic
waves and vocal syllables.” He believes the creator of the Voynich
Manuscript was a scientist of plants, pharmacy, astrology, and
astronomy, and that the Voynich Manuscript contains prophesy hundreds
of years ahead of the time it was created.
And
so, the mystery continues…

Taking the plunge…
Lacy Caldwell’s mermaid gig at a cheesy roadside beach bar provided much-needed income while she pursues her graduate degree. That is until the beloved owner dies and her greedy nephew announces he’s cashing out by closing the bar and selling the property to a developer who’s going to replace the kitschy charm of the Mermaid’s Purse with ocean-view condos.
Cameron Sanders can’t believe his good luck. Struggling financially, he’s thrilled to find out some random, ancient aunt he hardly knew died and left him an inheritance that’ll help take the money monkey off his back. He’s ready to go to the mat in battle when some annoying mermaid from the bar tries to throw a wrench in his plans. But things get complicated when he realizes that she’s a woman he’s started to have feelings for.
Book Review
Lacy is a mermaid. Not a real one, just a pretend one at the Mermaid's Purse. This is a bar run by a crusty old spinster who loves Lacy like a daughter. Lacy's pretty attached to her as well. The staff is a quirky mix of old and young character and the place is like a second home to her. Since she's busy studying along with this part time work gig, she's got no time to socialize. That's okay with her, till she has to attend her best friend's engagement party and face up to her ex boyfriend.
She needs a date. She's seen Cameron around her gym and shared a couple of yoga classes with him. Bolstered by the good folks of the Mermaid's Purse, she decides to ask him as her plus one. Cameron has been eyeing Lacy from a distance. He's a struggling artist whose got no money to make the rent, so he can't hop on to the dating wagon with anyone. Still it's something he would love to, especially if he was dating Lacy.
Then the owner of the bar dies and leaves it to her distant nephew. Now Lacy's heard that the nephew is planning to sell the bar and she's worried about her job and the legacy of the bar going down with the bulldozers. She's all set to light one into the nephew, when she comes face to face with Cameron. The characters at the bar make it sound like such an interesting place. I enjoyed the situations that they go through, especially the yoga class downward dog was funny to imagine.

If lusting after him is wrong, she doesn’t want to be right…
Harper Landry sometimes feels like she’s turned into a professional dater. Which might not be such a bad job if it didn’t involve having to spend so much time with a succession of truly undesirable men who were obviously still single for good reason. So she’s elated when she ends up on a blind date with the charming and handsome Danny Greevy, a man who seems too good to be true. But Harper’s starting to think that too good to be true might be downright perfect for her. Particularly when the man who launched her man-drought shows up unexpectedly to throw a wrench in her life yet again.
Noah Gunderson is back in town after traveling the world for the past several years. Forced to return home after promising his mother on her deathbed to save the beloved inn that she’d nearly run into the ground, he’s planning to get far away from Verity Beach just as soon as he’s got the inn back in the black. And he’s determined not to let the distraction of Harper Landry, the one that got away, keep him here a moment longer.
Book Review
I read book two in this series before I read this one. So I sort of knew a couple of things that happened, but it was still a really funny book. This one is about Georgie's boss Harper. Now here's a girl who is running through the blind date disaster list like a pro sprinter, and when she finally hits a guys she thinks has potential, guess who shows up? Her ex-boyfriend is the present Uber driver taking her current date and her to their destination.
That was a really funny situation. I also enjoyed getting to know the reason behind Noah ditching Harper, who he still considers the love of his life, all those years ago. What I liked about the story was that it was simple. There were no huge complications making characters act in a certain manner. It was just runaway emotions that they were trying to deal with. I found the language filled with colloquial fun. The story interesting, although somewhat predictable.
There were some scenes that I really enjoyed. Like the time when Noah is baby sitting his nephew Tyler. I can just imagine the horror on baby Tyler's mother's face when she saw half the stuff they did. I also enjoyed the way Danny was demoted from prospective boyfriend to two timing cheat. All in all it was a good read. Looking forward to reading the third book in the series.

Emma escapes to a nearby estate where she stumbles upon a house party being held by the Wicked Earls’ Club and finds herself at the mercy of the most extraordinary earl. One who could save her or see her condemned.
PERHAPS THEY CAN SAVE EACH OTHER.
When innocent lies become reality and danger follows them every step of the way, could love be the answer to both their problems, or will their passions be their undoing?
Book Review
He's half British and half Scottish. The death of his grandfather renders him the Earl of Benton. It's a legacy he can't refuse, especially if he wishes to use his newly inherited wealth to restore his castle in Scotland. His mother Madge feels that she's lost him to his British heritage and creates a scheme to smuggle whiskey which she knows only he can help her with.
Alistair is on the way to help his mom in Scotland when Emma lands in his lap, literally. She's a merchant's daughter, but she's the heiress to a fortune so the ton will accept her. Only trouble is, she has no wish to marry. Especially not her Uncle's malicious son. Unfortunately he is her guardian for another month. A month that she may not survive.
Alistair takes Emma under his protection and offers her a trip to Scotland. It serves both their purposes. They pretend to be married and while it makes no difference in England, what Emma doesn't know is that declaring each other husband and wife in front of a witness in Scotland is all that it takes to be married.
How will she react to the news that she's actually married to the handsome Earl. Will he be able to win her trust and convince her that he does not have any need for her money? Given the condition of his castle in Scotland and the fact that he's running whiskey, he doesn't think so.
Another beautiful historical story from the author. The characters are lovable, the situations that they find themselves in funny to the reader, and there's plenty of action to keep you engrossed till the end of the story. The book is also part of a multi-author series known as the Wicked Earls' Club.
