The epic conclusion to The Morphid Chronicles...

Everything has been taken from Sam by Regent Danata, the Morphid who destroyed the ethereal connection that bound Sam to Greg, her protector and lover. But Sam’s powers are maturing, and she is capable of more than she ever thought possible.

However, there is more to Danata’s threat than meets the eye. Dark forces operate behind the evil woman, and they are far worse than anyone suspects.

A malevolent secret lives in Rothblade castle, where Sam is kept in a dungeon cell, and it's about to be unleashed upon the earth. Now, Sam must embrace her Weaver powers or see the future of humanity and those she loves destroyed.

Book Review

This is the final book in the Morphid series and we have been waiting a long time for it to come! All I can say is that Ingrid did not disappoint. Sam is going to go through some of the worst times as she is captured and tortured by Danata. The best part is that while Sam may be now happily the regent with her Keeper, thankfully Ash has a whole new world to conquer. I wonder how long that book is going to take, but I am sure I will be reading it when it comes out. A lot of new characters to look forward to there!

Book Description

With the Rogue Queen vanquished, the rightful queen sits on the throne! Queen Xenya now must prove to the people that she is the queen they deserve. With all her daughters safe, Xenya can lead the people back to the path Kaelen laid out for the people of Aemonsha.

Maevan is thrilled that her mother is once again queen and in Traven, but doesn't know what to do with her feelings for Jorgan and her mysterious rescuer turned bodyguard Raikar. Her formerly betrothed, Coran, has banished himself to the icy lands of Cardea to sulk. Although she is safe and well protected, Mae can't shake the sense that someone wants her dead.

The Second House has always declared they are neutral in the fight between the First and Third Houses, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Antara, the current ruler of the Second House, cares only for power and retaining her lands no matter the cost. Her daughter Meirei is not as malleable an heir as Antara would like. Jorgan and Meirei have always banded together against their mother's iron-fisted ways, as much as possible. Meirei is determined to rule the Second House her own way and is desperately tired of her mother's abuse.

Everyone has a destiny, let's hope they all survive to see it.

Book Review

Now that Queen Xenya is back on the throne, you would feel that Maevan, Korla, and Renna would be safe. However that's not the case. In fact someone is staking Maevan and wants her dead. It's not Coran, who has decided to isolate himself away from the capital in the icy land of Cardea. It's someone deadly, and while Raikar is still Mae's bodyguard, he's not too sure how to handle this new challenge. There is also the confusion over whom Mae will eventually choose, Jorgan or Raikar.

Jorgan's mother Antara, ruler of the Second house wishes to cement their relations with a marriage. However while Jorgan is fond of Maevan, he's not exactly passionate about them as a couple. A fact that seems to surprise him when he finally manages to connect with Korla.

Book Description

Maevan, Korla, and Renna, three devoted sisters, have been trained all their lives how to defend themselves, hunt, and strengthen their minds by their mother, Queen Xenya. What they didn't prepare for was separation.

Many years ago, Queen Xenya of the First House was forced to flee her throne to the icy land of Cardea. Now the rogue queen, Shaezen, has demanded Xenya's eldest daughter, Maevan, return to the ruling city of Traven. Alone.

Mae loves her home and family but understands the necessity of her placement within the palace of their enemies. Her mother has been preparing Mae and her sisters for the return of the First House to power their entire lives. Something no one could prepare Mae for is the sheer evil of Queen Shaezen and her many devious plans. Mae must find a way to survive her time in the palace while dealing with an evil queen, romance, betrayals, religious fanatics, and court life.

Book Review

This was a phenomenal start to a great series. The story of a widow Queen in exile, who is training her three daughters to take back the power that was stolen from them. Queen Xenya is faced with a difficult decision when the Rogue Queen Shaezen asks for an exchange of children. In order to show that the First and Third Houses are in harmony, Xenya must send her daughter Maevan away from the icy land of Cardea to the ruling city of Traven.

Mae must endure all the ill treatment of the false Queen while trying to figure out how to bring her house back to power. The only saving grace is that While Queen Shaezen wants Mae to marry her elder son, Coran, he is already in love with someone else and has no desire to be tied down to her. Mae hopes that Jorgan of the Second House, whom she has had a crush on for ages, will help her. Only the one who does come to her rescue is not Jorgan, but Raikar.

Book Description

eparated from her dragon and stranded in enemy territory, Zara Kenrook has been branded as a traitor and a deserter by her own people. In order to survive, she temporarily teams up with Salcombe, posing as his high society wife and pretending to help him while desperately searching for a way to foil the impending war and reunite with Lessie.

With no allies to aid her, and danger lurking around every corner, Zara's chances of success grow slimmer by the day. But insurmountable odds have never stopped Zara before, and she's not about to give in. Not when the price of failure is not just the fall of Elantia, but of dragonkind itself...

Book Review

Zara's hit rock bottom on this path. She's separated from Lessie because the dragon will be hunted down and killed. She's got to make her own way back to the base, where people are already assuming her to be AWOL or a traitor.

To make matters worse she's captured by Salcombe who is exploiting her treasure sense to hunt down the pieces of the Dragon God's heart. And while she is happy to bump into Tavarian at the Traggaren court, he's also in not much better position than a glorified prisoner.

She's got to do something to get out of there, and she does!

Book Description

When Zara and Lessie first laid eyes on each other, neither dragon nor rider had any idea of the trials they would have to face together. Now, after several kidnapping and murder attempts, the pair have been transported to a secret location, where they must finish their training under the enigmatic and frustrating Lord Tavarian.

But with war brewing on the horizon, and Salcombe on the hunt for Zara, no place is truly safe. Soon, the two find themselves being attacked on all fronts, forced to lay down their lives for a cause they don't believe in and turn their backs on what they know to be right.

Fortunately for Zara, she and Lessie never been one to follow the rules. For that rebel streak may prove to be the crucial difference between triumphant victory, or certain death...

Book Review

So first of all I need to mention that I forgot about the new pen name that Jasmine Walt had taken on for this series. So even though I kept looking for the next book I didn't figure out it was showing up on the other author page! #FanFail

Other than that minor snafu I was again delighted with how the story progressed. Little Lessie is now big enough for Zara to ride comfortably. That results in a whole bunch of adventures that you are not going to want to miss! She finds out the secret about Lord Tavarian's dragon, gets captured by her old guardian who is still intent on finding the missing pieces of the dragon god's heart, ends up behind enemy lines, gets rescued by school friends, goes to the battle front and a whole lot more stuff that you are not going to want spoilers about. Just read the book.

Book Description

Skipping class can be deadly…

Fifteen-year-old Darcy Walker’s name means "dark walker." Whether her parents’ choice was a stroke of genius or smack of stupid, they definitely nailed the irony. She lacks direction. Distracts easily. And despite a high IQ, her grades stink.

Valley High’s reigning misfit, she’s also infatuated with a bad boy. A guy that her hottie best friend, Dylan, wishes would get acquainted with his fist.

With her life spiraling out of control, she cuts class and stumbles upon a corpse in a dumpster. From there, things go high-octane because in a world full of nouns, Darcy’s a verb. Hardwired for action, she gets caught up in the middle of the mystery and can’t let go.

When the school’s biggest nerd is arrested for the crime, Darcy goes Mach 1 trying to clear his name. Constructing aliases. Breaking the law. Dodging gangbangers who want her dead. Everything that makes perfect sense to her, but reeks of Grade A Stupid to everyone else.

Trouble is...will she live to see sixteen?

Book Review

The narration is a set of jumbled thoughts of the main character. It's really difficult to figure out any of her motivation in doing the whole follow that clue thing. Absolutely unbelievable ways to come in to information. The whole 15 year old passes for a lawyer routine was idiotic. I honestly kept hoping for some redeeming factor in the girl but was disappointed. She hasn't a clue that her best friend loves her. She's supposed to have a high IQ so what's she using it for? Not worth the time

Book Description

"I never meant to become a witch. But when someone you love dies, logic and reason die with them."

Sebastian Blackwell is your typical high school popular kid: attractive, charming, and a little rebellious. At least he used to be. But when his parents are killed in a freak accident, he goes from cool kid to orphan outcast before the dirt even settles over their graves. Now a shell of his former self, Sebastian realizes what really matters in life and is determined to get it back, no matter the cost. To do it, he'll have to delve into his family's darkest secrets, secrets his parents tried to protect him from his whole life.

With a ghost as his only friend, a goth girl his only ally, and a demon prince his only chance, Sebastian sets out on a desperate path of redemption that seems more likely to damn him than to save him. For all power has a price, and Sebastian must decide what he is willing to pay to defy death itself.

Book Review

When I got word about this book detailing Sebastian's early years was out, I had to get it. It tells us how the mundane boy born in a wizard family gets into magic and becomes a witch. So much is explained about his relationship with his great great aunt, Mrs Barrington. It was wonderful to read about the sixteen year old boy who last becomes that charming adult we meet up with in the Lily Singer series. Can't wait for the next book in both series.

Book Description

Stunning, svelte, smart Ipshita is a globetrotter. She treks across the world to gather bytes for the travel chats she designs and hosts for TV channels. Despite being a self assured and sophisticated entrepreneur, Ipshita is haunted by a nameless fear. Social interaction with men unleashes psychotic turmoil inside her, making her wary of male attentions. Yet, the cold and aloof Ips is inexorably drawn to the three men she meets at different points in her journey. Her arousal to the overtures of these men catches her unawares. Well-built defenses break as her dormant sexuality go into overdrive until she discovers the horrifying truth about them...and herself. Life puzzles. Secrets tumble out. Will she be able to reclaim her life or let it dangle.

Book Review

Recently I've begun reading new Indian authors in the English language. I've been pleasantly surprised with the books I have found. This is one such story. It starts out with Ipshita making her living as a freelance globe trotter but brings her inner struggles to the front. You sympathize with Adi as he waits in the side lines, always there for her. Your blood boils when you discover the root of her troubles. You are worried about the seemingly paranormal activity she attracts.

This book spoke to the fauji brat in me when going through the QRTs and insurgency ridden areas. The camaraderie of two regimental officers and their families is something I could identify with easily. It also appealed to me on the level of a thriller where you know something is wrong, but you can't figure out just what it is. The fauji influences, the twist in the tale and the author's overall handling of a complex subject...simply brilliant!

Far from home and facing perilous odds, Lily fears she's not strong enough to keep her friends safe and win the day. Will the risks she takes be enough? Or will this adventure be the end of them all?

Book Review

Even more fascinating characters enter the story universe in this book. Sebastian is reunited with his grandmother. A British setup shows a different kind of wizard. Lily heads to Oxford and finds bibliophile heaven. And of course a lot more trouble. Can't wait to read more.

Book Description

After the heart-shattering ending of her first serious relationship, eighteen-year-old Sophie has sworn off love. Now that school is behind her, she plans to travel the world and form as few attachments as possible. The only exception: Lex, the artist on the other end of the Internet who chats to her almost every day. A guy she can never lose--since she doesn't actually have him to begin with.

Sophie's plan can start as soon as she's faked her way through her sister's wedding. Pretending to be happy and excited for the next week or two should be easy, right? But that was before Caleb walked onto the scene ... Best man to Sophie's almost-brother-in-law, Caleb is infuriatingly friendly and determined to get a real smile out of Sophie. Forced together through dance classes and wedding-related disasters, Sophie is determined not to like him. And terrified when she ends up failing.

Then Lex suggests he and Sophie should meet, and all Sophie's careful plans for the future begin to unravel. Now the girl who was never meant to fall for anyone must figure out what to do with the two guys tugging at her heart.

Book Review

I think this series is a brilliant one. It deals with a host of issues that teens face and brings up solutions which one would not have though of. Sophie is happy for her sister and the wedding is taking up a great deal of everyone's time and effort. Unfortunately Sophie is not in the mood for celebrating life, the reason is revealed in the book. She's feeling too guilty to live, except online with a friend who is as talented an artist as she is. Then Caleb shows up for the wedding as the Best Man and refuses to be put off by her attitude. He's found out her secret and loves it, but will she forgive him when he reveals his own?

Book Description

Andi’s been in love with the boy next door for years. She’s convinced Damien’s the perfect guy for her. So it’s probably nota good idea to pretend to be his girlfriend to help him snag the attention of someone else. But Andi knows it won’t be for long. Soon enough, Damien will figure out he loves her too, and their fake relationship will become a real one.

Damien’s best friend Noah is the complete opposite of Mr Perfect: rude and annoying, with trouble-maker written all over him. Definitely not Andi’s type. Which makes it all the more confusing when she realises how much she likes spending time with him.

When the fake relationship plan starts working, Andi should be overjoyed. It’s what she wanted, right? Except … what if perfect isn’t so perfect after all? What if messy, imperfect, and real are exactly what she needs?

Book Review

The series continues with Andi's story. The step sister. Apparently she was Damien's neighbour. They have been close friends and she has had a crush on him forever. What she wishes is for him to see her as an attractive woman instead of a little girl. She can't be happier when it begins to happen. What she does not anticipate is Noah, and how despite being so very different from her, he is just right for her. Another sweet read filled with teenage angst and some surprises along the way.

For Livi Howard, high school sucked. Orchestra Geek, Choir Monkey, The Ginger … and the labels didn’t end there. But high school is behind her now, and fabulous university life is ahead. Let Project ‘Ditch the Nerd’ begin!

Adam Anderson is a nerd and proud of it. His university plans include computer studies, Xbox marathons, and reruns of his favourite sci-fi TV shows. Watching his best friend Livi transform herself into a person he barely recognises was never on the list.

With Project ‘Ditch the Nerd’ a success, Livi thinks she finally has it all—except for the part where she’s growing further and further away from Adam. When a party goes south, Livi is forced to reconsider the lengths she’ll go to be accepted by the ‘right’ people. How far is too far? And will she ever be able to find her way back to herself—and to the guy who’s been in front of her all along?

Book Review

This book is the second in the series but can easily work as a stand alone. It's Sarah's friend Livi's book. Livi is on a mission to lose the nerd status that plagued her in high school when she goes to college. Adam is trying to explain to her that she doesn't need to change herself and forget about her old hobbies like playing the violin.

Of course things get even more messy when Adam breaks up with long distance and long time girl friend Jenna. Can Livi forget her need to be with the in crowd long enough to actually be there for her best friend when he needs her? Of course she can deal with that.

What she and Adam both didn't count on dealing with is their crazy attraction to each other...Now the question is, will they act on it? Or do they prefer to be in the friend zone forever?

Sarah doesn’t talk to strangers. It’s awkward, stressful, and there’s the uncontrollable blushing to worry about. When she boards a plane to fly home after an overseas holiday, she plans to stick her nose in a book and ignore everyone around her.

Aiden’s terrified of flying, and it’s his first time on a plane. If he can distract himself by talking non-stop for the entire flight, he will. Too bad for Sarah he’s sitting right next to her.

Against all Sarah’s expectations, she ends up enjoying Aiden’s company. They laugh, argue, concoct stories about other passengers, and accidentally hold hands during the turbulence. When the time comes to say goodbye, Sarah can’t help the crazy thought that she shouldn’t let Aiden go.

Then he kisses her.

And then he’s gone.

With her world turning upside down in more ways than one, Sarah has to make a decision: stick with the safe, predictable life that’s been mapped out for her, or find the courage to go after what she truly wants.

Book Review

I really enjoyed reading this young adult book. Most of us have irrational fears and the author gives both her main characters fears that we can identify with. She then proceeds to blend in a romance and real life complications so beautifully in the story. It was fun reading about South African cultural references. The story has universal appeal and is the sort of thing that could happen to anyone. There was also the underlying lesson that if you wake up and work for what you want, you can definitely have it

Book Review

A high school student dealing with visions and powers that run in the family, a nosy cousin, a concerned boy friend, a demanding best friend and her job as a gliding instructor. It's a well written story about a girl who has to overcome much in life to even approach something called normalcy. There are chill,s thrills and a superb climax which will leave you biting your nails. I swear there were times I wanted to jump right into the book to help them prove who did it!
